GBRF Water Quality

WTSIP is delivering the Great Barrier Reef Foundation Water Quality 1 project across high priority catchments in the Wet Tropics. 

This project is an extension to the Australian Government's Reef Trust III Project which maintains extension support for cane growers who are making practice changes that will improve the quality of water flowing to the Reef.

Timing: July 2019-November 2020

Extension support will be available across this time period.

Nutrient Management Planning

WTSIP's extension team will be working with growers to review their individualised whole-of-farm nutrient management plans.

Weed Management Plans

Customised weed management plans are also available for individual cane growers.

Overview

This project is aligned with the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan. Funding is being provided to reduce sediment, nutrient and pesticide losses across Great Barrier Reef catchments.

WTSIP's team of 10 extension officers is providing customised extension support and training opportunities for cane growers in the Wet Tropics to make practice changes.
